A new list of Grade 12 literature setworks has been prescribed for 2009 to 2012. Clever Books publishes three drama titles approved by the National Department of Education. We offer two different Shakespeare series, each with its own distinctive features. Choose the series that works best for you.
The Shakespeare 2000 series presents the original text side by side with a version in modern English. Usually, a learner tries to read Shakespeare with the help of only notes and a glossary. Constantly referring to explanatory material disrupts reading and makes it difficult to form a coherent understanding of the work. With the modernised version, learners can comprehend language, plot and characterisation on the first reading. Shakespeare 2000 Romeo and Juliet and Othello are approved for Grade 12. The Bankside Shakespeare series has been developed specifically for the South African school market. The editors are experienced teachers of Shakespeare and have focused on making the plays accessible to a modern audience. The series provides an understanding of Shakespeare’s language through an extensive glossary alongside the text. Detailed notes in plain, nonacademic English on the same page as the text give background and commentary on characterisation, themes, imagery and more. Bankside Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet is approved for Grade 12. Click here to see the full range of titles available in this series.
All of the Clever Books approved titles come complete with
